Abstract
The study used the descriptive, non-experimental design. Subjects were regular BSN IV students of DLSU-EAC College of Nursing of the school year 1990-1991 A total number of 40 respondents were selected using convenience type of sampling. This study used the checklist type of questionnaire. Statistical measures used in the study were the percentage, the statistical mode and mean. The major findings of this study are: 1.) Majority of the respondents considered Personality Development and Nursing 105 as their major subjects. Religion 7, Asian Civilization, Philippine History, and Constitution were considered as minor ones. 2.) The respondents concentrate more attention and exerted more time to Nursing 105, second priority was Personality Development, and the rest though not totally ignored were given less attention; and 3.) Among the factors which influence BSN IV students to ignore their minor subjects are weak teaching motivations, academic requirements are not challenging, and teacher’s teaching strategy is poor. There were very few who disagreed that minor subjects had nothing to do with their preparation for nursing practice. It is therefore concluded that majority of the respondents concentrate and gave more time to their major subjects while minor subjects were given less attention; and there is also a significant difference between the students’ low concern over minor subjects with that of teaching motivations/performance and academic requirements.
