Abstract
The principal aim of this study is to determine the knowledge and practices of the selected mothers of Malagasang II Imus, Cavite regarding prevention and care of children with measles. The results of this study shows that majority of the respondents regarding prevention of measles is by giving immunization, some by staying away from infected person. Others by having proper nutrition. With regards of the practices in preventing measles as being practiced by the respondents, majority is by giving immunization, by staying away from infected person. Others by having proper nutrition. About the knowledge in caring for children with measles as perceived by the respondents, majority is by consulting a doctor, some respondent mothers perceived by giving sponge bath with herbal medicines like kulantro and kalamias leaves, some by drinking of boiled palay, some by taking self-medications. Others by isolating of infected person and by not exposing. A few numbers of the respondents practices in caring children with measles as being practiced by the respondent is by consulting a doctor, some of them by giving sponge bath with herbal medicines, some by taking self-medication, a few numbers by isolating of infected person, by drinking of boiled palay. Others by not exposing. Majority of the respondents perception about their knowledge and practices had an effect on the development of measles of their children and others had no effect. The perceived reasons of the respondents on how the knowledge and practices affected the development of measles is to prevent any complications, some perceived that only doctor know the proper management in preventing measles, few numbers perceived that having measles is only normal, by immunization, which gives their children good resistance to infection, by drinking of boiled palay and giving sponge bath with herbal medicines help for the desquamation of the rash. Others had no response. Based on the foregoing findings, the researchers conclude that: 1. Mothers significantly different in their knowledge and practices regarding measles in terms of prevention and care which shows that the first hypothesis is accepted. 2. Responses are significantly different that the knowledge and practices had affected the status of measles case of their children which the second hypothesis is also accepted.
