Abstract

This study was about the advantages and disadvantages of a working mother as perceived by the De La Salle University - Emilio Aguinaldo College of Nursing. The purpose of this study was to determine the advantages of a working mother. The researchers wanted to identify the common problems encoutered by the respondents on being a working mother. It aimed also to determine the best steps they did in solving problems and the best means of maintaining a good performance in their profession. All of the respondents claimed that there were advantages on being a working mother. Majority of the respondents said that the advantages of being a working mother included personal, emotional and social growth. The common problems encountered by them was having difficulty to attend to household chores, which majority of them agreed. Majority of the respondents solved problems by means of time management which includes prioritizing and proper scheduling or planning of activities. The researchers also found it that majority of the respondents agreed that the best suitable suggestion on how to maintain a good performance in the profession was by setting of priorities. Some of them said it was good interpersonal relationship. As seen from the findings derived from the survey, hypothesis number one (1) was accepted wherein the respondent's reason for working was for challenge and social, emotional growth. Hypothesis number two (2) was also accepted wherein the respondents find one common disadvantage of working was inability to attend to household chores. Same with hypothesis number three (3), it was accepted because the respondent's way of solving problems depend on time management. Hypothesis number four (4) was also accepted wherein the respondents suggest that a way of maintaining a good performance in the profession was by means of good interpersonal relationship.
