Abstract

This study sought to rank the job stressors encountered by staff nurses of selected Cavite City hospitals, the effect of each to their job performance, and their significant relationship. With the utilization of questionnaires, we are able to gather the necessary data. The use of mean and chi square test facilitated in ranking the stressors and testing the hypothesis which later proved to have significant relationship. The finding of this research was supported by several related studies. Objectives of the study were met from data gathered and from tested hypothesis. Researchers concluded that conflict with co-workers makes a great influence to the staff nurses in their job perfromance and poor hospital facility/environmental setting is considered the least stressful to them. This study presented the significant relationship between job stressor and job performance. The significance of the study is for the nursing staff in preparing themselves to the demands of nursing and develop appropriate responses in dealing with stress; and for the nursing service administration, to find better and effective approaches in improving nurses working condition and keep the nurses from reported dissatisfaction. Findings Showed that conflict with co-workers is the most stressful to the respondents and poor hospital facility/environmental setting is the considered the least stressful to them, emergency cases ranked second next to the most stressful followed by work overload and seriously ill/ demanding hostile patients. The job stressors encountered by the respondents have significant relationship with their job performance. Among the stressors presented, emergency cases proved to give of a positive effect. Stress may affect individuals positively or negatively depending on the person's perception. Although findings showed that job stressors affect most of the respondents negatively and positively to few. It showed that the respondents reaction to job stress makes a difference in their performance.
