Abstract
This research determined the effects of the three different shifts on the family relationship and health status of selected nurses at the De La Salle University Medical Center. It determined the problems in family relationship by the staff nurse associated with being scheduled during the three shifts of duty. It also determined the health problems associated with being scheduled during the three shifts of duty ( AM, PM, Night ). The method that was used in this study was the descriptive type of research. This method described the different variables exist in this study, which were the effects of shift rotation on the family relationship and health status of staff nurses at the De La Salle University Medical Center. The medical, surgical, pediatric, emergency and the Intensive Care Unit of DLSU-UMC in Dasmariñas, Cavite was chosen as the area of the study. This study utilized the stratified random, a type of probability sampling where in the total list of the population was determined and at least 2 staff nurses were selected in each area. Out of forty staff nurses in DLSU-UMC, respondents were the thirty nurses who had been employed for one year. The staff nurses must be female, at least 21-30 years old and can be married or single on the conducted year of study. Questionnaire were used in gathering the data. Questions were formulated thus enabling the respondents to answer the effects of shift rotation on family relationship and health status of selected nurses at DLSU-UMC. Pre-testing was done, questions were analyzed and necessary revisions were percentage was used in analyzing the data gathered. Through this research study, the researcher's found out and concluded that the problems encountered in family relationship for the single nurses were the following : 1. Members of the family are disturbed in their sleep. 2. Lack of communication with members of the members of the family. 3. Conflict within the family on who will pick you up from the hospital. 4. Conflict on who will take you to the hospital or to the nearest jeepney or bus stop. 5. Can't do works at home because of lack of sleep during your shift. For married staff nurses: 6. Lack of preparation for the children's meal. 7. Lack of supervision on children's Homeworks and other needs. The health problems encountered during the three shifts of duty are the following : cold, cough, abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, headache.
