Abstract
This research design is descriptive method wherein it utilized a systematic approach in collecting stool samples of patients positive for Entamoeba histolytica which was cultures using Locke-egg dibasic media and incubated for 48 hours. It was then tested with different concentration of treatment of the Makahiya plant extract and it was observed every 12 hours for 48 hours. The results of study showed that there is an Amoebacidal effect of Makahiya (Mimosa pudica Linn) plant extract against Entamoeba histolytica. The makahiya plant extract had an optimum concentration of 100 percent and the duration of Makahiya plant extract that will perform its Amoebicidal activity is 12 hours. The Makahiya plant extract performed an amoebicidal effect against Entamoeba histolytica with an optimum concentration of 100 percent that lasted for 12 hours. It is then concluded that present of metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides and Saponins contributed to the Amoebicidal activity of Makahiya.
