Abstract
Lack of access to safe drinking water is a global concern particularly in rural and low-income communities. In this time, various water treatment technologies were developed such as the water filter system to improve water quality. (United Nations Development Programme, 2021) This study aimed to assess the potability of household water filter systems, namely Reverse Osmosis, Ion Exchange, Activated Carbon, and Mechanical in Barangay Buhay Na Tubig, Imus, Cavite. The parameters of bacteriological such as heterotrophic plate count, total coliform, and Thermotolerant Coliform were analyzed to assess the microbial safety of the filtered water. Physicochemical parameters such as color, turbidity, pH level, and total dissolved solids were analyzed to determine the overall quality of the water. The quality of drinking water in terms of Physicochemical Parameters such as color, turbidity, pH, and total dissolved solids are all acceptable as they fall within the respective regulatory limits while in terms of bacteriological testing parameters such as heterotrophic plate count, total coliform, and thermotolerant coliform demonstrates the all four water filter systems, including Reverse Osmosis, Activated Carbon, Mechanical Filter, and Ion Exchange are all effective since it resulted within the regulatory limit. This study provided benefits to the public health, medical technologists, community, academe, and future researchers. Furthermore, this study was able to answer the significance of the problem which provides valuable insight into the effectiveness of household water filter systems which improves the awareness of the community in making an informed decision about their drinking water.
