Abstract

Salmonellosis is a bacterial infection caused by microorganisms from the genus Salmonella belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family that occurs in the intestinal lining of living organisms, causing diarrhea, fever, and stomach pains to its hosts. Salmonella typhimurium is the third most prevalent Salmonella serotype and the second non-typhoidal serotype in the Philippines. Passiflora edulis var. flavicarpa, or yellow passionfruit, has been proven to contain piceatannol and antimicrobial properties, against bacteria, including Salmonella typhimurium. This study was aimed to aid in spreading awareness of the effects of S. typhimurium infections and to provide a possible treatment for the bacteria by utilizing the MIC/MBC Analysis. The experiment was a quantitative experiment and gathered the seed extract using the Soxhlet extraction method. The minimum inhibitory concentration using the seed's extract positive control, ciprofloxacin, was 0.03125mg/mL. The results of the study showed indeterminate results in regard to the fruit's minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentration.
