Abstract

E-cigarettes are more popular than regular cigarettes solely due to their cost-effectiveness, convenience, and superior alternative. This research seeks to understand what factors led these the factors leading selected users to switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigarettes, including demographic profile, smoking profile, and the vital relationship between the factors and their demographic profile. A cross-sectional research methodology was used to determine what prompted consumers to transition to e-cigarettes. Fifty-one respondents in Barangay Santiago, General Trias, Cavite, completed a PATH-adapted questionnaire. The data were statistically examined to summarize and provide accurate information and valid findings. The study found that 82.4% of respondents are 18–31. Respondents are 88.20% male.

54.90% had household incomes under 10,000 pesos. 64.7% were raised by smokers. 51% never saw a traditional cigarette smoker. 68.6% reported family exposure to e-cigarettes. Respondents smoked 100% traditional cigarettes with one or two puffs before switching products. Before converting to e-cigarettes, 74.5% smoked <1 pack per day. 47.1% start smoking e-cigarettes within 60 minutes of waking up. 76.5% tried to quit smoking before using e-cigarettes. 52.9% smoked before trying e-cigarettes. After e-cigarettes, 54.9% smoked frequently. The research concludes that males aged 18-31 are associated with a high transition rate and cigarette usage. The rate of daily smokers increased somewhat after shifting. Intrapersonal factors strongly influence an individual's decision to switch, while societal and cultural factors have a moderate influence. The demographic profile of the research respondents does not have a significant relationship with the factors. Age, sex, and household wealth does not affect cultural, societal, or intrapersonal variables.
