Evaluation of the effectiveness of antimicrobial resistance surveillance system and protocols in De La Salle University Medical Center (DLSUMC)

Abstract

The study utilized historical research to confirm and synthesize evidence from the past to establish facts that would answer the research question. The study assessed the level of microbial resistance using the existing surveillance and protocol of De La Salle Medical University Center from year 2014 to 2017. The researchers then identified % resistance of limited organisms to a number of antibiotics per year in DLSUMC and compared it from the national % resistance of limited organisms to a number of antibiotics. The compared data included the infective organism and the reported drug/s that showed resistance to it. The results were then analyzed by the researchers using the Fischer's Exact Test and determined whether there waxs a significant difference and correlated with the baseline parameters. The results revealed that the Antibiotic Surveillance System and Protocols of DLSUMC was effective in preventing and controlling the rise of antibiotic resistance against the identified organisms during the study period.
