Abstract
Through the years, multiple assumptions and stereotypes have been created surrounding the idea of motherhood— whether in the biological, psychological, or social aspect of well-being. Thus, the researchers have aimed to take a holistic approach and explore the implications of postpartal experiences across teenage mothers from different generations by investigating how postpartum experiences affect their biological well-being in terms of: physical changes, nutrition and upkeep, and lifestyle; their psychological well-being in terms of: behavioral changes, mood swings, and personal views; and their social well-being in terms of: filial relationship, familial and marital relationship, and social participation. The researchers utilized a phenomenological qualitative research design and used a self-made research questionnaire which was used during an indepth interview with 4 teenage mothers, with each one coming from either the Generation Z, Millennial Generation, Generation X, or Baby Boomer Generation. With the data gathering procedure and thorough thematic analysis, the researchers found that the postpartal experiences of the respondents had unique implications yet with the same significance on the biopsychosocial well-being of the mothers, encompassing both negative and positive implications. Through thematic analysis, the social aspect garnered a total frequency of 181 occurrences, the psychological aspect a total frequency of 158 occurrences, and the biological aspect a total frequency of 104 occurrences. The findings from this study highlight the multifaceted implications of teenage motherhood on their biopsychosocial well-being, emphasizing the need for comprehensive and holistic support systems and interventions to address the complex challenges teenage mothers face, especially during today’s generation.
