Abstract

One year after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines is still piloting various digital contact tracing systems. Notwithstanding its official contact tracing application, the government implemented a decentralized contact tracing system independently managed by its local government units. Institutions are gradually shifting to the new normal using these apps, lacking a thorough assessment of the public's knowledge and attitudes on these tools: this includes educational institutions readying for impending blended learning, especially for health science-related programs. This study aimed to determine the knowledge and attitudes of the Special Health Sciences Senior High School students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute on the COVID-19 digital contact tracing systems in the Philippines. The study is descriptive research that describes the data collected concerning the research problem. It utilized survey questionnaires to gather responses from one hundred (100) participants. Results revealed that 85% of the senior high school students are highly knowledgeable about digital contact tracing systems. However, the participants expressed a lower knowledge about the voluntariness and the nondisclosure of the digital contact tracing among the statements asked. Also, the participants expressed positive attitudes toward the digital contact tracing, with a weighted mean of 4.493 on a 5-point Likert scale. The participants still expressed a lower positive attitude on the installation of apps utilizing GPS location and Bluetooth. Consequently, educational institutions planning to conduct blended learning must consider information dissemination and limited use of GPS and Bluetooth features for contact tracing.
