Abstract

Students’ decisions have a huge impact on their future, so, choosing the perfect course that they will take in college is a crucial part of their adolescence. Quite notably, Health Sciences has been among the top courses that high school students prefer. Decision-making is crucial in one’s life. Given its importance, the consideration of various factors is vital as one’s choices could affect a person’s prospects and livelihood. As part of this pursuit, the study aimed to determine the factors that affect the

decision of Grade 12 students in pursuing a health inclined course. A non- experimental mixed-method research design was utilized to accumulate

data, through an online survey, from the 225 respondents from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. The results showed that the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is the preferred health-related course of the majority of the respondents, and interest in the field, and their own decision making, were the most influential factor for their course choice. With a wide range of participants, the use of more in-depth interview question tactics and diverse instruments to evaluate different factors will become increasingly significant. Further study is needed to determine if or how these factors affect the students’ desire to take a health-related course.
