Abstract

The study only focuses on hand dryers located in the public comfort rooms of Medical Arts Center in De La Salle University Medical Center. The only type of hand dryers focused in this study is the air hand dryer, which blows dry and hot air. The collection of the bacteria focused in the study will be swabbed from the very opening of where the air comes out of the hand dryer. The air hand dryer must be considered functional and still of use to the public. The bacteria to only be studied are the species of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The study excludes: (1) other types of hand dryers that do not blow air (e.g. jet hand dryers), (2) comfort rooms that are not for public use (e.g. comfort rooms for staff only, comfort rooms located in patients’ rooms), (3) comfort rooms that are not located inside the building of Medical Arts Center in De La Salle University Medical Center, (4) other species of bacteria (e.g. Acinetobacter baumanii), and (5) hand dryers that are inoperable. The study will focus on hand dryers located in public comfort rooms, regardless of the labeled gender. The study will disregard the frequency of usage of the hand dryers by the people.
