Abstract
The study described the experiences of participants during face-to-face learning. The ten (10) participants were students of the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute from Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology A.Y. 2022-2023. They were chosen using the purposive and heterogeneity sampling. A descriptive qualitative research design was used.
The following findings emerged: there were adjustments needed for face-to-face learning; transitioning from online to face-to-face learning caused many changes in their learning experiences; and appreciation of face-to-face learning.
The participants described their face-to-face learning experiences, generally by comparing them with online learning. Face-to-face learning requires more time, offers a greater workload, and the learning environment demands more social interaction, thus the need for the participants to adjust, as they were from two years of online learning.
The transition to face-to-face learning caused many changes in their learning experience. Among these changes are in terms of written assessments that require extra effort in studying and hands-on learning in a simulated radiology department, which fostered better retention of discussions in the classroom. Included also is the increased studentteacher engagement, which led to meaningful learning experiences. Greater engagement with other students was also identified, which apparently either fosters learning or becomes learning distractions. Other changes described are the physical environment and collaterals as learning enablers and distractions; maintaining focus; and time management. Despite the challenges of face-to-face learning, the participants expressed appreciation for this instructional method. They realized that they learn better with this set up, which effectively contributes to the appreciation of their program.
