Abstract

The study used the descriptive-correlational method. Respondents were composed of 35 qualified health volunteers and certified trainers of Red Cross Cavite Chapter selected using purposive sampling. A self-made questionnaire was employed as the data gathering instrument. Mean, percentage, standard deviation, frequency, ANOVA, t-test and Pearson product moment correlation were used in data analysis. The following conclusions were obtained: 1) Majority of the qualified volunteers and active members of the Philippine National Red Cross Cavite Chapter were 30 years old and below, male, single, obtained college level of education, living within Cavite, and were health volunteers for five (5) years and below; 2) Majority of the respondents had a very good level of knowledge on the application of first aid; 3) The respondents practiced the application of basic first aid to great extent; 4) There was no significant difference in the level of knowledge on the application of basic first aid when the respondents were grouped according to gender, educational attainment, and length of service; 5) There was a significant difference in the level of knowledge on the application of first aid when the respondents were grouped according to age and civil status. Younger and single respondents had a better level of knowledge than older and married respondents; 6) There was no significant difference in the extent of practice on the application of basic first aid when the respondents were grouped according to age, there is a significant difference. Older respondents tend to have a more extensive practice than younger respondents; 7) There was a very small negative relationship between level of knowledge and extent of practice on the application of basic first aid does not affect the extent of practice on the application of basic first aid.
