Abstract

This study used descriptive research method using survey and correlation analysis. A total of 377 respondents were chosen out of a total population using stratified random sampling. The research instrument was a self-made questionnaire based on the level of awareness and preventive practices on osteoporosis. Mean, frequency, percentage, f-test, t-test and Pearson’s r correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. Based on the findings from the study, the following conclusions were obtained: (1) Majority of the respondents were female, high school graduates, belong to the 15 to 29 age group and belong to below poverty level group; (2) The respondents were moderately aware of osteoporosis; (3) The respondents practiced the different ways to prevent osteoporosis to a moderate extent; (4) The level of awareness of the respondents on osteoporosis had no significant difference when grouped by age and gender but there was a significant difference when they were grouped by educational attainment and socio-economic status; (5) The level of preventive practices of the respondents on osteoporosis had no significant difference when grouped by age and gender but there was a significant difference when they were grouped by educational attainment and socio-economic status; (6) There was a significant positive relationship between the level of awareness and the level of preventive practices of the respondents on osteoporosis.
