Abstract

The demographic data includes age, gender, civil status, educational attainment and monthly family income. This study utilized the descriptive correlational research to assess the communication skills of radiologic technologists and the patient satisfaction and at the same time, to investigate the relationship of the two variables. The study was conducted in selected hospitals in Cavite where a total of 500 patients had participated in the study to evaluate the communication skills of 100 radiologic technologists. Simple random sampling was used to determine the respondents. A self-made questionnaire was used to obtain the data that is needed in the study. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test for individual samples, F-test or one way ANOVA, Duncan’s multiple range test, chi-square test and point biserial correlational coefficient were the statistical tools employed to analyze the data. Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) most of the respondents are 25 to 44 years old, female, married, reached college level and with a monthly family income of 10,000 pesos and below; 2) the respondents graded the communication skills of the radiologic technologists, both verbal and non-verbal, as excellent; 3) majority of the respondents were satisfied with the communication skills of the radiologic technologists; 4) there was no difference in the communication skills of radiologic technologists as perceived by the patients when the respondents were grouped according to age, civil status, educational attainment and monthly family income. However, there is a slight difference in the communication skills when the respondents were grouped according to gender. Those respondents who are female have lower satisfaction on the communication skills of radiologic technologist; 5) there was no difference in the patient satisfaction on the communication skills of radiologic technologists when the respondents were grouped according to age, gender, civil status and educational attainment. On the other hand, patient satisfaction differs according to the monthly family income of the respondent. Those respondents with higher incomes have a lesser satisfaction on the communication skills of radiologic technologists than those who have lower incomes; 6) there was an existing relationship between communication skills of radiologic technologists and patient satisfaction on communication skills. Those radiologic technologists who have excellent communication skills result to higher patient satisfaction.
