Abstract

This study used a qualitative study research design using non-probability purposive sampling. It was conducted among 11 patients diagnosed with cerebral palsy, aged 4-18, under GMFCS level III to V, did not have or own a wheelchair and were registered members of the Person with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) of Dasmarinas, Cavite. An interview was conducted to gather data that are necessary for the study. In analyzing the data, this study used frequency distribution and percentage to determine the patient’s information and clinical profile. Narratives were used to present and explain the data transcribed from the interview, applying the six (6) themes namely: environmental, financial, social, personal, education and information and others as factors limiting the patients with cerebral palsy from acquiring a wheelchair. Knowing all these factors, the researchers learned the importance of multidimensional approach in the wheelchair acquisition process because, although patients were mostly limited due to financial barrier, other factors also greatly affect wheelchair acquisition.
