Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a significant shift in the learning system at a national level forcing educational institutions to utilize online learning rather than classroom-based methods. With this, students in all year levels were subjected to unprecedented challenges brought about by the pandemic. This predicament led to greater concern regarding stress among college students which may arise from different stressors. Thus, this evidence led the researchers to conduct this study. In this quantitative descriptive study, the main objective is to analyze the perceived stress level of PT students in Cavite as well as to identify the common stressors using the Perceived Stress Scale and Medical Student Stressor Questionnaire. respectively; Statistical tools consisting of frequency, percentage, mean and SD along with different visual representations were utilized to interpret the results of the tools. Using convenience sampling, a total of 91 respondents were acquired and eligible for the study.

The study found out that most students experience a moderate level of stress, relating to Academic Related Stressors as being the most common stressor among all ages, sex, year levels, and online learning settings. Students who are female, aged 22-23 years old, in their 2nd year, and under pure synchronous classes perceived the highest level of stress as compared to other students. The results of the study were consistent with other studies stating that online learning, alongside the different stressors, pose many challenges thus causing a certain amount of stress. With this, the results of the study can be used as a reference as to how school administrators can promote mental health awareness and stress management strategies to relieve students of stress coming from the different stressors brought about by the adaptation to an online learning setting. Lastly, future researchers must also conduct further studies over a larger population and sample size to provide more reliable results and conclusions.
