Abstract

This study utilized the quantitative descriptive type of research design and simple random sampling. Using the Slovin’s formula and applying a 5% margin of error, the researchers have computed that 195 or 51.35% of the total population of 379 is necessary for the study. The research instruments were patterned from the Clinical Performance Evaluation Criteria used by the Human Resource Department of De La Salle Health Sciences Institute in evaluating the performance of nursing faculty members in the clinical area. The questionnaire used was a checklist. Data was analyzed through frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Z-test for independent means and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) or F-test. The study concluded that; 1) Majority of the respondents were from Clinical Team B, female, has a Grade Point Average of 83-85% and Catholic; 2) The respondents strongly agree at all the questions regarding the characteristics of an effective clinical instructor; 3) There is no significant difference on the perception of an effective clinical instructor when grouped into clinical team, gender, GPA and religious affiliation.
