Abstract

The study used the quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive method. Using purposive sampling, the first year nursing student currently enrolled at De La Salle Health Sciences Institute at the time of the research endeavor was chosen. The instrument used in the study was adapted and modified. Data was analyzed through frequency distribution, percentage, mean, t-test and f-test. The study concluded that, 1) Majority of the respondents are female 16 to 18 years of age, with a monthly family income of P30,000 to P39,999, Catholic and eldest in the family; 2) Based on the results of the study, nature of work and job opportunities have very high influence to the respondents in choosing nursing as their profession whereas socio-parental factor has a moderate influence to the respondents in choosing nursing as their profession; 3) There are no significant differences on the factors influencing BSN batch 2015 in choosing nursing as their profession when they are grouped according to age, monthly family income, religion and ordinal position in the family. There is a significant difference on the factors influencing BSN batch 2015 in choosing nursing as their profession when they are grouped according to gender.
