Abstract

The study utilized the descriptive method. The respondents were 50 primary caregivers of children with Down Syndrome in Noveleta, Trece Martires City and Cavite City and chosen using convenience sampling technique. A self-made questionnaire was utilized as instrument. Data was analyzed through mean and f-test. The following conclusions were drawn: 1) Most of the respondents belonged to the age bracket of 34-41 years old, female, with income between P11,000-P17,000, and have reached secondary level of education; 2) The overall level of knowledge of the respondents in giving physical, emotional, social, and spiritual care to children with Down Syndrome was very high. They comprehended the facts towards the care of children with Down Syndrome; 3) The overall level of attitude of the respondents in giving physical, emotional, social and spiritual care to children with Down Syndrome was high. They have a great chance in raising and giving all the child's needs resulting to a healthy living because of their positive outlook in their situation; 4) The overall level of practices of the respondents in giving physical, emotional, social and spiritual care to children with Down Syndrome was high. Their way of raising the child with Down Syndrome is healthy for the child and for the family; 5) There are significant differences in the knowledge, attitude and practices of the respondents regarding the care of children with Down Syndrome when grouped according to age, gender, family income and educational attainment. In terms of age, caregivers between the age of 34- 41 have more patience and knowledge in dealing with difficult situations. They almost normally know how to react in crucial times.
