Abstract
This study used a qualitative, descriptive type non-experimental research design. Fifty (50) clients who underwent hemodialysis were chosen as the respondents using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire was used to obtain data. The Jalowiec Coping Scale was used for the evaluation of coping strategies and the R.A. Stromberg Level of Hope Scale was used for the measurement of the level of hope. Percentage distribution, mean, ANOVA via f-test, t-test and Pearson’s r or product moment of correlation coefficient were used to interpret the data collected. The researchers drew up the following conclusions: 1) Most respondents of the study were patients who belong to the 40-59 years old bracket, equally distributed in terms of gender, reached college level, married, Catholic, and had a family income of more than P20,000 per month; 2) On the average, the clients used the coping strategies sometimes and they utilized problem-focused coping strategies more often than emotion-focused coping strategies; 3) The level of hope of clients undergoing hemodialysis is very high; 4) There is no significant difference in the coping strategies of the respondents when grouped according to age, gender, educational attainment, and marital status. However, there is a significant difference when clients were grouped according to family income and religion; 5) There is no significant difference in the level of hope of clients undergoing hemodialysis when grouped according to age, gender, educational attainment, marital status, family income, and religion; 6) There is a significant relationship in the coping strategies and level of hope of clients undergoing hemodialysis at De La Salle University Medical Center.
