Abstract

The study utilized a descriptive method of research. Using purposive sampling technique, 100 respondents were taken from five (5) selected areas in Molino 3, Bacoor, Cavite namely, Purok 4, Zones 1, 2 and 3 and Purok 6, Zones 1 and 2. The study used a validated self-made questionnaire. The statistical tests applied were frequency distribution, mean, t-test, f-test and Chi-square. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the respondents were female, belong to age group 20-39 years old, college graduates, married and have a monthly income of P10,001-P15,001; 2) The overall level of knowledge of the respondents regarding garbage disposal was high; 3) However, the overall level of practice of the respondents regarding garbage disposal was moderate; 4) When grouped according to age and gender, the result showed that there was no significant difference among the respondents’ knowledge on disposing garbage. When they are grouped according to civil status, educational attainment and financial income, there is a significant relationship with regards to their level of knowledge in garbage disposal. This is because married individuals are the ones responsible in the household chores and are expected to know how to dispose garbage properly. Proper garbage disposal can be learned in school; 5) The population who know how to dispose garbage properly are those who are able to attain higher level of education. Financial income is also significant because proper garbage disposal can be learned in school and the only people who can go to school and have an education are those who are financially stable; 6) When grouped according to age, gender and family income, there was no significant difference among the respondents’ level of practice. In contrast, there was a significant difference in the level of practice when they are grouped according to educational attainment and civil status. This may be attributed to the fact that when a person is educated enough, there is a greater possibility for him to put into practice what he learned. Moreover, married individuals are more conscious about practicing proper disposal of garbage because they are the ones who are responsible in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of their household; 7) There was no significant difference on the level of knowledge and level of practices regarding garbage disposal.
